Goals of SmartRiverside

Riverside, California, is a high technology community with a technology park, many high technology companies, and higher education community with four college campuses. The Mayor of the City of Riverside formed SmartRiverside to grow as a technology community with the following goals:

  • Attract and retain High Technology companies in the City of Riverside
  • Build a Smarter Riverside through City Wide free wireless Internet Access
  • Increase the technology literacy of Riverside through Digital Inclusion
  • Identify new programs to foster technology innovation and use in Riverside

Message from the Chairman

Mayor Rusty BaileyThe City of Riverside is evolving as a high technology community with over 40,000 college students leading the future of our community technology vision and direction for the future. As the chairman of SmartRiverside, my goal is to continue to attract and develop high technology companies to our Technology Park and utilize the talents of the high skilled labor in our community to foster a SmartRiverside.

Message from the Executive Director

CIO Lea Deesing SmartRiverside will drive free City wide wireless access to the internet while providing a critical communications infrastructure for the City to operate more efficiently and cost effectively. To ensure that our disadvantaged neighborhoods are not left behind, SmartRiverside will ensure that every household in Riverside will be able to obtain free internet access and either a discounted computer or free used system. Various community groups, our community centers, and Cybrary’s are gearing up to provide the education and resources necessary to help our community grow as a SmartRiverside.

Message from the Technology Ombudsman

Greg Lee The City of Riverside and SmartRiverside are committed to attracting and retaining knowledge-based companies that help solidify Riverside as a City of Arts and Innovation. Whether the need is access to capital, site selection assistance, or networking with local leaders; it’s my goal as the City’s Technology Ombudsman to support the growth of our local technology companies. I’m confident that with initiatives such as SmartRiverside, the City has committed the necessary resources to help innovation succeed and allow Riverside to become a center of high technology in the Inland Empire.
